🌿 Photography by Marie — Presence, Collaboration, Real Connection
Calm sessions. Honest images. Real people in all the different ways they show up.
🧠 Why I Photograph the Way I Do
I grew up as the observer. I paid attention to patterns, energy, and what people do when they are being themselves. My mind works through presence and quiet noticing. Photography became the place where that way of seeing made sense.
I am not trying to manufacture perfect moments. I am here to see you accurately and catch what is already real.
🧱 How I Work
My sessions are calm and collaborative. I do not arrive with a fixed plan, and I give us plenty of time so the experience stays steady and unrushed. We follow what feels natural instead of performing for the camera.
I work with the environment you are already in, the light that exists in the moment, and whatever expression shows up when there is no pressure to act.
The photos end up looking like your actual life, not a staged version of it.
👥 Relationships I Photograph
I work with relationships in all forms, especially ones that are not always centered by mainstream culture.
This includes:
queer couples
queer elders
polyamorous constellations
blended families
chosen families
platonic partnerships
co-parenting teams
long-term friendships
people who do not fit traditional couple or family scripts
You do not need to adjust or sanitize anything. You can show up as you are.
🧸 Working With Kids
When kids are part of a session, I follow their pace. I do not push them to pose, smile, or perform. Children take better photos when they feel comfortable, safe, and unhurried. My job is to create that environment.
🌱 Self-Discovery and Identity Sessions
I also photograph individuals who are in a period of self-discovery or personal change. These sessions are steady, quiet, and shaped by the person who shows up that day.
This is for people who want to see:
who they are right now
who they are becoming
how their environment supports them
how their identity lives in their body
The camera becomes a way to look at yourself with context, not criticism.
💍 Small Weddings and Ritual Events
I also photograph small weddings, elopements, and ritual events. I work with one camera and one lens. I do not direct people much, and I do not run weddings like a production.
I am best for intimate, calm ceremonies where I can blend in as part of the group. I rely on connection with the couple and their people so I can move around naturally and catch real moments instead of staged ones.
If your wedding is simple, slow, relational, and rooted in presence, my style fits well.
📍 Community Roots
Photography is one of the ways I stay connected to the places I live. I have volunteered my work in:
Brooklyn Center, MN
Columbia Heights, MN
Minneapolis - Camden-Webber
Minneapolis - Northside
I photograph people as neighbors, not just clients.
